Families & Caregivers

COVID – 19 (Novel Coronavirus)

The Garth Homer Society wanted to update families and caregivers regarding GHS’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak that is occurring.

- There are a number of confirmed cases in BC, and the numbers are growing world wide.

- GHS is closely monitoring the situation, and monitoring information from our partner organizations (Island Health, CLBC, BC Housing).

- Residents of BC, remain at LOW RISK.

- GHS has comprehensive policies and procedures in place related to this:

o   “Pandemic Influenza Plan”

o   “Communicable Disease and Universal Precautions”

o   “Client Health”

- Proper Hand Hygiene remains the best prevention.

o   Hand washing with soap and water is MORE effective than hand-sanitizer

o   Please remind everyone in your home to properly wash their hands

o   We have attached some information on “Hand Washing & Hand Rubbing”

What GHS has done so far:

- GHS has complied with all recommendations by health authorities.

- All staff have been reminded of proper hand-hygiene, and Universal Precautions.

- GHS has assured ‘deep cleaning’ in all program spaces is being done regularly, and that ‘high touch zones’ are appropriately cleaned and disinfected regularly.

- All visitors are reminded to ‘be alert’ for symptom of illness or other issues, and to visit another day if there are any concerns.

- GHS is continuing to monitor the situation closely, and we will advise you of any critical information, if that becomes necessary.

If you have contact with some-one known to have COVID-19 or who has travelled in a high-risk area, contact the BC Health Line, available 24/7 by dialing “8-1-1” .
