Who pays for this service? The service is completely free of charge to both clients and employers. Garth Homer Society is funded by Community Living BC. Our funding is supplemented by donations made by generous members of our community. How are the employees covered under WorkSAFE BC? A Garth Homer Society client who participates in a time limited un-paid work experience or volunteer position is covered under Garth Homer Society’s insurance. If the worker is a paid employee of your organization, then you as the employer pay the insurance for your employee. The worker’s job coach is covered under Garth Homer Society’s insurance. Is the employee going to be a safety liability? Our clients demonstrate the same or better rating of safety as workers in the general population. The Job Coach thoroughly assesses the job site and the job candidate before proceeding with a match. I operate a high- volume business. What kinds of support can ES provide? We provide candidates who match your business culture, and your bottom line. A Job Coach can help the worker develop efficiencies and speed to ensure quotas are met. Is the support of a Job Coach time limited? A Job Coach is available for ongoing support. They can assist you to identify natural supports, such as checklists, timers, or co-workers who can give limited assistance. If the worker needs to learn a new task or procedure, their Job Coach can provide on site support again. How will an employee from ES benefit my company’s profitability? Today’s workforce is more committed to their employer when the company demonstrates social responsibility and good corporate citizenship. In addition, having an employee with a developmental disability provides opportunities for co-workers to develop leadership skills and sensitivity to customers with disabilities. Approximately 14% of Victorians have a disability. Our clients can assist your team to complete tasks that other employees don’t have time to do, and they often do not need to work the same number of hours as other employees. What type of paperwork is involved? A quick work agreement form is completed to ensure all parties know how to contact each other, and have an idea of the expectations of the job. Once a year we ask that a short two page performance review be done for the employee.
