ARTISTS' STATEMENT

por•trait
noun
- a likeness of a person, esp. of the face, as a painting, drawing, or photograph: a gallery of family portraits.

In August 2009 we had an ArtTalk meeting to come up with a new art theme. We all had ideas on the subjects that we could use for inspiration. These ideas were dormant for a short time that is, until we all finally agreed on breathing life in the subjects’ mouth. We studied portraits and posed for them. We then sketched pictures of ourselves to learn about proportion and colour. Then, soon after we painted them. It wasn’t easy at first start of the process. Patience opened our eyes and taught us more about portraits and portrait drawing. If we knew nothing or little about this then, we can certainly say now a year later that we know more. It was worth it. We hope you enjoy our show!
